Association of Chicana Activists (A.Ch.A.) SDSU 21st Annual Chicana/Latina High School Conference

Association of Chicana Activists (A.Ch.A.) at San Diego State University would like to cordially invite you, your students, and their parents to our 21st Annual Chicana/Latina High School Conference on Saturday, February 8, 2014, 8:00 am to 2:30 pm. This conference is offered to promote: higher education, cultural awareness, positive Chicana/Latina role models, and self-determination to both our female and male youth. It is very important to note that this conference is not exclusive for young wom[y]n, and we encourage young men to attend. The Association of Chicana Activists works to provide our low income, first generation, and underrepresented students with the tools and motivation needed to obtain a higher education. Regardless, of the obstacles that are present today, such as tuition increase, budget cuts, and decrease enrollment in universities, we believe that they should not stop students from attending college.

Our 21st Annual Chicana/Latina High School Conference theme is: Believe in our youth, plant seeds of knowledge, and reap the fruits of success.

The conference will be held in Montezuma Hall in the new Aztec Student Union at San Diego State University. Free parking will be provided and located in PS 3 level 3. Registration and breakfast will begin promptly at 8:00 AM and our program will end at 2:30 PM. Our conference will host workshops that deal with: financial aid, the path to a four year university, body image, and current social and cultural issues among many other topics. This conference is absolutely free and includes: breakfast and lunch, daycare for anyone who may need it, an empowering keynote speaker, two scholarships, and live entertainment. We will provide a space for local artist and community organizations to come vend or table, and for students to learn more about their community resources. Feel free to encourage both female and male high school students, parents, educators and members of the community to attend. Everyone is welcomed!

We also have our personal A.Ch.A scholarship, which we encourage all students that fit the criteria to apply. Two scholarships will be awarded at the conference. The deadline to submit a scholarship application is Saturday, January 25th, 2014 at 11:59 pm. Please note that applicants must be present at the High School Conference in order to receive the scholarship if awarded.

To register for the conference, register individually at http://sdsuacha.webs.com/register.htm by February 07, 2014.
