Honoring the Class of 2015 at the 7th Annual High School Filipina/o Graduation of San Diego

San Diego, CA – The Kuya Ate Mentorship Program (KAMP) will be hosting its 7th Annual High School Filipino/a Graduation of San Diego (HS FilGrad), co-sponsored by the Filipino American Educators Association of San Diego County (FILAMEDA). The celebration will take place on Sunday, May 24, 2015 from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. at the beautiful downtown Public Central Library.

Here are a few pictures of SUHI grads participating in FilGrad!

HS FilGrad is an event proudly organized by the members of KAMP to recognize the achievements of all San Diego high school Filipino/a graduating seniors. “HS FilGrad was such an amazing experience for me because I actually felt appreciated for my accomplishments in high school from others,” shared Mariel Velicaria after participating last year. “Thank you KAMP and HS FilGrad for this wonderful experience.”

This year Todd Gloria, representative for the City of San Diego’s Third District, will honor our students as the keynote speaker. “As a proud member of the Filipino-American community, I’m honored to join the Kuya Ate Mentorship Program to recognize the accomplishments of our local Filipino/a students,” said Councilmember Gloria. “High school graduation is the start of a long journey toward self-discovery, and this organization works tirelessly to integrate cultural identity with academics to encourage the success of these students.”

Students who participate in HS FilGrad will be exclusively eligible for FILAMEDA’s scholarship program. Those who apply must exhibit great dedication to their community as well as excel in academics.
