Summer Junior Legislative Program

On behalf of Assemblywoman Lorena Gonzalez, I would like to extend a personal invitation for your wonderful students--specifically the classes of 2016 and 2017--to apply for our Summer Junior Legislative Program.

We look for students who want to make a positive difference in our community. Junior Legislators will learn about the different facets of State Government, get hands-on experience as team members for an Assemblymember, meet community leaders and elected officials, work together to propose their own piece of legislation, build a track record of civic engagement that can be included in resumes and college applications, and receive a Certificate of Recognition upon completion of the program.

We hope to provide a special leadership and service experience that will help bring our students success in the competitive college application process upon which they are about to embark.

Click here to find the application. The deadline to apply is Friday, June 5th.

Please feel free to contact our District Director, Francine Maigue, at (619)338-8090 or at Francine.Maigue@asm.ca.gov with any questions or comments you or your interested students may have.

All the best,
--

Class of 2015 FilGrad

Sweetwater High School participated in the San Diego FilGrad Ceremony this past weekend!

HS FilGrad is an event proudly organized by the members of KAMP to recognize the achievements of all San Diego high school Filipino/a graduating seniors. “HS FilGrad was such an amazing experience for me because I actually felt appreciated for my accomplishments in high school from others,” shared Mariel Velicaria after participating last year. “Thank you KAMP and HS FilGrad for this wonderful experience.”

There were 44 grads from all over San Diego County, SUHI had 25 grads! Thanks to our Filipino Language teacher Ms. Villanueva's help, SUHi definitely represented!

SUHI Class of 2015 FilGrads
There ceremony was held at the downtown public library on the 9th floor with a panoramic view of the ballpark, Embarcadero, and downtown skyline. It was a beautiful venue!

Todd Gloria, SD Councilman,  was the keynote speaker. If you didn't know, Todd Gloria's paternal grandfather was a Filipino navy man who married a Tlingit woman when he lived in Alaska. He had a great speech about following one's passions and a call for public service.

Our students earned over $700K in scholarships!

Congratulations to the Class of 2015 for a wonderful Scholarship Awards Ceremony last night!

Many of our scholarship presenters shared a similar message: the importance of giving back to your community. A significant number of our scholarship donors are SUHi Alumni from across the decades. Many others are community leaders in National City and surrounding San Diego county. We appreciate their efforts in supporting the college going culture of our school. Sweetwater High is so very thankful to our donors for investing in the futures of our students. It is through their generosity we are able to have such a wonderful scholarship awards ceremony every year!
