Progress Reports Came Out on Friday

Students should have shared their progress report grades with you on Friday.

Any students who have a D or F on their progress report may be at risk of not graduating.

If you have questions or did not see your child’s grades, please call the counseling center at 619-474-9720.

YMCA program called Leaders In Training (LIT)

Summer is around the corner & we know you are looking for community service opportunities!

There is an amazing YMCA program called Leaders In Training (LIT)!
The LIT program is a compressive job readiness program that prepares and provides high school students with the opportunity for a hands on work experience as a YMCA Jr. Camp Counselor.

LIT Training modules include:· CPR/First Aid Certification
· Leadership Development
· Resume Workshop
· Interview skills
· Youth Development
· Basic Supervision and more…

Once trained they are eligible to participate in LIT Placement where they work side by side with a camp staff and receive up to 40 hrs. of community service per week worked. Through this program students gain valuable work experience that can open up doors for jobs at the YMCA- Many of our LIT’s who stay in Chula Vista for College receive after-school youth leader positions.

Although there is a cost for the program there is value gained with the work experience and trainings modules offered. If eligible scholarships are available.

  • Submit a 500 word essay  on "How has a middle or high school counselor positively influenced you?"
  • One copy of your transcript
  • One letter of recommendation from a teacher

The Brown Field Explorer Post #1925 will be accepting applications and holding interviews.  

Requirements-
• Must be between the ages of 14 and 20
• Must have completed the 8th grade
• Must maintain a minimum 2.0 Grade Point Average
• Must be enrolled in either High School or College
• Must have no criminal history
• Must be a United States Citizen
  • Please bring a pen, a copy of your most recent report card and a copy of your Birth Certificate
  • Applicants under the age of 18 must have a parent or legal guardian present with photo identification.
  • All applicants and their immediate families are subject to a background check.
  • Applicants are requested to wear job interview attire.

Girl's S.T.E.M. Fair


This conference is free to attend and open to any middle or high school students that identify as female, but they must sign-up for the event using the QR code. Historically, students have found the panel inspiring, the workshops fun and exciting, and the event an overall positive experience. This is an excellent opportunity for your students to learn about topics that might not be taught in school, as well as hear from students about their experiences studying S.T.E.M. Students should RSVP as soon as possible as spots are filling up quick!

5th Annual Junior Legislator Program - Summer 2018

Are you a high school student or recent high school grad? Want to add a strong track record of civic engagement & community service to applications & résumés? Want to change the world?

Apply to become a 2018 Junior Legislator!


Junior Legislators will learn about State Government, propose their own law, plan & execute a special community service project, get hands-on experience as team members for the Assemblywoman in her District Office, meet community leaders & elected officials, and receive a Certificate of Recognition upon completion of the program.

Application Deadline: Tuesday, May 1, 5 p.m.

Program Dates:
  • Orientation & Picture Day with Assemblywoman Gonzalez Fletcher: Thursday, June 28, 9:30 a.m. - 3:30 p.m.
  • First Week: Tuesday, July 3 – Friday, July 6, 9:30 a.m. - 3:30 p.m. (No session on July 4)
  • Second Week: Tuesday, July 10 – Friday, July 13, 9:30 a.m. - 3:30 p.m.
  • Community Service Day: Saturday, July 14, 8:30 a.m. - 11:30 a.m.
  • Final Week: Tuesday, July 17 – Friday, July 20, 9:30 a.m. - 3:30 p.m.

Karangalan Scholarship

Karangalan is a Tagalog word that means, “pride, dignity, and honor”. The Karangalan Scholarship, sponsored by the friends and family of the Filipino educators of the Sweetwater Union High School District, will be awarded to outstanding Filipino American senior students in the Sweetwater Union High School District who have demonstrated excellence in academics and community involvement.

BEFORE APPLYING:

The following eligibility requirement must be met:
1. You must be a high school senior of Filipino/Filipino-American descent enrolled in the Sweetwater Union High School District.
2. At the time of application, you must have a minimum 3.0 college weighted GPA.
3. Have applied to a 4 year college/university as a full-time student

Position Qualifications & General Responsibilities

MINIMUM POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:
 Current American Red Cross or American Heart Association certification in:
Lifeguard Training and 1st Aid/CPR/AED
 At least 16 years of age
 Ability to move equipment in excess of 50 lbs.
 Familiarity with ocean environment and surf conditions preferred.
 Preferred experience with marine/outdoor recreational sports including: Kayak, Sail, Surf, Hawaiian Outrigger, Canoe, and/or SUP.

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
 Assist SWC Faculty/Instructors and CCAC program leaders as assigned.
 Display a positive, professional attitude at all times.
 Respond to all First Aid and Aquatic Rescues/Incidents while on-duty.
 Stage and stow related watercraft and program equipment for daily operations.
 Assure all CCAC participants are properly fitted for PFDs and paddling equipment.

WAGES:
 CA minimum wage ($11/hr) or higher, commensurate with experience.

FilGrad 2018 - High School Filipina/o graduation of San Diego

The Kuya Ate Mentorship Program (KAMP) is hosting its 9th annual High School Filipina/o graduation of San Diego (HS FilGrad), an event which recognizes the achievements of all San Diego high school Filipino/a graduating seniors. Participating graduates are exclusively eligible for a scholarship program sponsored by the Filipino American Educators Association of San Diego County (FILAMEDA).
