Fentanyl Awareness Workshop

There are fentanyl awareness events in Spanish coming up!

They will be 100% in Spanish, registration is required, the event is free, Narcan will be distributed for free and there will be free childcare on site.

South Bay Community Talks- September 20th

 Youth in Action and Partnerships 4 Success under the Institute for Public Strategies will host the South Bay Community Talks in collaboration with McAllister on Wednesday, September 20th, from 5:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Olivewood Gardens in National City.

We will provide a safe space for teens, young adults, families, and community members of all ages to talk openly about issues related to community stress, alcohol use, drug misuse, and the fentanyl overdose crisis. Translation services will be available for those who prefer Spanish.

Along with hearing from community organizers and local mental health providers, a FREE light dinner will be provided for all who attend. Community service hours are available for youth who participate and bring their community service form ready for signatures.

Teens for Healthy Relationships

Maintaining healthy teen relationships requires communication, respect, and empathy. Openly discussing feelings and concerns fosters understanding. Respect for each other's boundaries and individuality is crucial. Building trust through honesty helps establish a strong foundation. Empathy allows for supporting each other through challenges. 

Balancing time with friends and personal pursuits ensures independence. Addressing conflicts calmly and finding compromises strengthens bonds. Digital communication should be mindful, promoting face-to-face interaction. Encouraging personal growth and celebrating achievements cultivates a positive environment. 

Ultimately, nurturing these aspects creates fulfilling relationships that contribute to emotional well-being and personal development during the formative teen years and beyond.

Our Safe Space - March

Happy Women's History Month! I also wanted to remind everyone that March 31st is International Transgender Day of Visibility. This is an annual awareness day, dedicated to celebrating the accomplishments of transgender and gender nonconforming people while raising awareness of the work that still needs to be done to achieve trans justice.

As Alok Vaid-Menon said, "Man and woman are two of many stars in a constellation that do not compete but amplify one another's shine. There are as many ways to be a woman as there are women. There are as many ways to be a man as there are men. There are as many ways to be nonbinary as there are nonbinary people."

• Cooking Night will be happening Thursday 3/17 at 4:30 pm
• Caregiver Jam will be happening Wednesday 3/22 at 6 pm
• Open Closet will be happening Thursday 3/23 at 3 pm
• OSP will be closed Friday 3/31 for Chavez-Huerta Day + International Transgender Day of Visibility

29th Annual Adelante Mujer Conference

Registration for the 29th Annual Adelante Mujer Conference is now open!

For 29 years, the Adelante Mujer Conference has been aimed at providing female students with enriching learning experiences. Participants attend workshops led by female professionals who teach about life skills, academic planning, and career opportunities in fields, such as law, medicine and other paths. Adelante Mujer continues to welcome mothers, guardians or accompanying adults to participate.

Fostering Self Esteem Event

What is MHAM ?

MHAM is a student-led 501(c)(3) non-profit organization based in the greater San Diego area. We are dedicated to providing mental health education and resources to minority communities, including low-income communities, communities of color, and the LGBTQ+ community. Fostering Self Esteem Event

Our virtual Fostering Self Esteem event will be held virtually on Saturday, April 30th at 1PM PST. The purpose of this event is to provide helpful information for marginalized students that will assist them in developing healthy self-esteem within societal structures that attempt to make them feel inferior. We would love to see some of your students there. If you are able to relay this information to them, along with the attached flier, it would be greatly appreciated.
