Wellness Wednesday: In Helping Others, You Help Yourself

Happy Wellness Wednesday Red Devils!

Consider the positive feelings you experienced the last time when you did something good for someone else. This “warm glow” is thought to be one of the drivers of generous behavior in humans. One reason behind the positive feelings associated with helping others is that being pro-social reinforces our sense of relatedness to others, thus helping us meet our most basic psychological needs. Read more here.

Self-Care Tip:
Spread good news and kindness. Doing so can lighten your mood and brighten your day!

Kindness Challenge:
Write a thank you note to someone who has been helpful to you.

Use of Personal Emails vs. SUHSD Emails

As we near the end of this school year, please remind graduating students (and students leaving the district) to create a new google/gmail account (for personal use) and save any desired files/information from their existing SUHSD google account.

Their SUHSD GOOGLE/GMAIL accounts, ending in @sweetwaterschools.net, will be deactivated and deleted.  Students should not use the SUHSD domain as a personal google/gmail account.

  1. For 12th/13th grade students graduating, we will deactivate/delete their accounts starting the first weekend of September.  (We understand that students can possibly receive awards communications via email through August.)
  2. Other students, leaving the district, will have 30 days before their account is deactivated/deleted.
  3. We will send out reminders (IC Messenger) in May to students and parents reminding them to save wanted information from their @sweetwaterschools.net google account and to create a personal google/gmail account, to be used for their higher education endeavors or gmail needs when they leave SUHSD.
  4. This notification will also be posted on our district website, under the Students and Parents tab, starting in May.

Questions?  Please contact us at 619-585-7995, option 3.  Thank you for your assistance.  Enjoy your weekend.x

Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers SDSU Conference

The SHPE SDSU board and High School Conference Committee are striving to make this event as educational and as interesting as possible. To do this, we are working with companies such as Qualcomm, Collins Aerospace and General Atomics so that we may have professional engineers speak upon their stories as well as answer questions for the high school students. The university student panel will also be available to assist with questions students may have about classes, financial aid, or any other topics regarding college.

Although this event targets high school students, we welcome any other grades and teachers who will like to come and sit in. We believe that this could be an amazing experience for young students as interacting with professional engineers and university students could help them learn more about their future university major and career. With that goal I hope you can reach out to students and Staff at Olympian who may be interested.

The conference will take place on April 9th at 2:00pm

Wellness Wednesday: Lift Up

Happy Wellness Wednesday!

What does it mean to "lift up others"? It means to make one feel happier, more confident, or more contended.

What are ways you can lift others up?

Be encouraging. Encouragement is an expression and assurance of one’s hope and future in words, presence, and sincerity.

Be quick to forgive. When others make a mistake, be quick to forgive and forget; releasing them from guilt and shame that may take root in one’s heart when not dealt with over time.

Be understanding. Wisdom and understanding go hand in hand. Understanding starts by being an active listener, asking intelligent questions to gain further insights, and being accepting of what the speaker is sharing. Then, answer without condemning. Or don’t answer at all and decide to just be a listening ear.

Be positive! Positive thinking goes beyond having the drive and motivation for personal success. Positive thinking is explicit, definite, and outspoken. It’s contagious. Build up your loved ones with your positiveness, allowing them to be open for better things to come.

Love. Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.

Read more at https://www.becomingminimalist.com/ten-simple-ways-to-build-each-other-up/

Kindness Challenge:

Stop to help. One example is when you see someone in the store parking lot who needs help with their groceries, stop and ask if you can help. Sometimes all they need is an offer for assistance.

Self-Care Tip:

Look your self in the mirror and smile big. Smiling releases endorphins, which helps a person feel happier and more positive,
