September Wellness Message

Hello again,

Sweetwater High Students as we begin September with our 2nd monthly wellness message of the year.

Why not start on your path of excellence? If you haven’t already put your 100% in school, then it’s still not too late. Remember last month’s message about positive affirmations?

This month you need to believe that you are still capable, equipped and well able. Believe in who you are – empowered enough to be ALL that you were meant to be and are now.

Use this sense of empowerment to fuel your journey, giving you the courage to do well and the strength to try new things. YOU ARE EXCELLENT!

Be Well Red Devils,

SUHi Counseling Department

SUHi Wellness Message #1

Welcome Sweetwater High School students to the first monthly wellness message of the year.

This month we are focusing on positive affirmations. Positive affirmations are happy thoughts and are a great way to get yourself in the proper mindset to achieve your dreams so let’s start the school year right with some positive self-affirmations:

1. I am smart.
2. I am capable.
3. I am successful.
4. I am important.
5. I am ready to do well.

These affirmations can be used to bring positive energy and a more open mind to any area of your daily life. You can use these affirmations or make some of your own. Remember, your words have power. Find the right words to change and inspire your life or inspire you every day.

From your SUHi Counselors

If you or someone you know is experiencing emotional distress, please call or text 988 to speak with a trained crisis counselor 24/7/365.

Be Well Red Devils Wellness Newsletter (September 2022)

 Greetings Red Devils,

The counseling department has decided to take a slightly different approach this year when it comes to sharing health and wellness information. In years past the SUHi community received a weekly Wellness Wednesday message that was sent to all students, parents and staff. This year the counseling department will instead send out a monthly newsletter that will contain an array of information, resources, links, pictures, advice, etc. that is all related to health and wellness.

Even though, our new Be Well Red Devils Newsletter will come from our counseling department, we are always open to collaborating with any group on campus who would like to contribute a wellness message, resource, or idea to the newsletter.

If you have a questions or would like to provide feedback in regard to our wellness newsletter, please feel free to email me at marco.garcia@sweetwaterschools.org.

Happy Wellness Wednesday Red Devils!

It's been a pleasure bringing the weekly messages to you this year! We hope you have a restful and recharging summer! Please fill out our survey to improve our messages for next year.

As mental health month comes to a close, you may be addressing your mental health for the first time with the information we have been sharing with you.  You may come across words that seem simple but you aren’t exactly sure what they mean.

988 has been designated as the new three-digit dialing code that will route callers to the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline. While some areas may be currently able to connect to the Lifeline by dialing 988, this dialing code will be available to everyone across the United States starting on July 16, 2022.

When people call, text, or chat 988, they will be connected to trained counselors that are part of the existing National Suicide Prevention Lifeline network. These trained counselors will listen, understand how their problems are affecting them, provide support, and connect them to resources if necessary.

The current Lifeline phone number (1-800-273-8255) will always remain available to people in emotional distress or suicidal crisis, even after 988 is launched nationally.

Wellness Wednesday: You Can Do It

Happy Wellness Wednesday Red Devils!

As the school year comes to an end, there are lots of deadlines and expectations that may cause some stress and anxiety. Remember, there are no limits to what you can accomplish! Keep your eyes on the goal and ask for help when you need it.

May is Mental Health Month so here are a few more tips for mental health self-care and how to be an ally to those needing mental health supports.

RECOGNIZING WHEN YOU NEED HELP WITH YOUR MENTAL HEALTH

Think about your physical health. We all have days where we feel a bit sore, have a headache, or are extra tired. That doesn’t necessarily mean you’re sick. You’re sick when something suddenly and significantly changes for the worse or prevents you from functioning properly.

Mental health is similar – the occasional bad day is to be expected, but when things that used to be easy become a lot more difficult, something’s going on. Instead of focusing on physical symptoms, you’ll want to look at your thoughts, feelings, and behaviors.

WHAT TO DO WHEN YOU NEED HELP

When living with a mental health condition or facing a mental health concern, it’s common to feel like no one understands what you’re going through. But many people overcome the mental health challenges they face. You aren’t alone – help is out there, and recovery is possible.

We invite you to participate in our Mental Health Month Bingo to introduce mental health topics like recognizing warning signs, knowing the factors that can lead to mental health conditions, maintaining mental wellness, seeking help for mental health.

Our weekly emails and our Instagram @SUHiCounseling during the month of May will provide the answers.

Please submit your responses here: https://bit.ly/ suhimay2022 by May 29th for a chance to win a variety of prizes!

Wellness Wednesday: Maintaining Good Mental Health

Happy Wellness Wednesday Red Devils!

Since May is Mental Health Month, we want to continue sharing some mental health resources for you.

WHAT PLAYS A ROLE IN DEVELOPING MENTAL HEALTH CONDITIONS?

Most mental health conditions don’t have a single cause – they have many possible causes, called risk factors. The more risk factors you have, the more likely you are to develop a mental health condition in your lifetime. Mental health conditions can develop slowly, or symptoms can start to appear more suddenly after you’ve experienced a stressful event or big change.

MAINTAINING GOOD MENTAL HEALTH

Whether you realize it or not, mental health plays a big role in your overall well-being. When you’re mentally healthy, you are able to enjoy your life and the people in it, feel good about yourself, keep up good relationships, and deal with stress. It’s normal for your mental health to shift over time – we all face difficult situations in our lives. Creating positive habits is a great way to support your mental health when you’re doing well and helps you build skills to use if you do face symptoms of a mental health condition.
