#WellnessWednesday: Gratitude #BeWellRedDevils

Happy Wellness Wednesday Red Devils!

November kicks off the holiday season with high expectations for a cozy and festive time of year. However, for many this time of year is tinged with sadness, anxiety, or depression. Certainly, major depression or a severe anxiety disorder benefits most from professional help. But what about those who just feel lost or overwhelmed or down at this time of year? Research (and common sense) suggests that one aspect of the Thanksgiving season can actually lift the spirits, and it's built right into the holiday — expressing gratitude.

You Don’t Have to Go Through This Alone

Sweetwater counselors have opened the College Application Workshops for the entire school month of November in the Counseling Center so students who have started or need to start working on their college apps can have their applications submitted before Nov 30th (the deadline for all UC and CSU schools).

We are already in the 5th day of November (A.K.A the most stressful month for seniors in the US), and this means that the countdown to submit your college applications has been started and the clock has begun ticking, every day louder. Luckily for us, senior devils, we can count on a group of passionate, committed, and caring counselors who have put aside all their plans so they can be available for any senior who might be struggling—or just want a space to work in peace—in their College apps.

From November 5th through the last day before thanksgiving break, there will be College Application Workshops every week from Tuesday through Thursday in the Counseling Center. Every day of the week the space will be open for you to work on your applications before school, during nutrition break, during lunch or afterschool and every day of the workshop a different group of counselors will stay afterschool to help you get all your stuff done. They count with everything you need so you don’t have to worry about anything but putting in information to the computer and writing about how awesome you are.

Student xxx went to the workshop on the 4th and she shared: “It is unbelievable how much you can advance on your college apps when you have someone there that knows how to help and really cares about guiding you through this stressful process.” Student xxx also said: “I came here with my CSU application just started and I stayed during lunch and afterschool and now I am completely done with it. This stressful process passed by as if it was nothing thanks to Mr. Garcia's help.” And lastly, Senior xxx stated: “Every time I would open my UC application at home, I would get really stressed because I have so many questions and I didn’t know where to go. Ms. Chavez made all this stressful process feel like the easiest thing ever. I think everyone who is stressing about college apps really needs to come to this workshop, it is incredible how much help one can get in just one day.”

You have read the advice of the experienced students, who tell you that you really should come if you have need help on your applications. SUHI counselors, as always, will be ready to help you. If you have any question, if you need a letter of recommendation, if you need to start or finish your application, just have in mind that whatever it is that you need, a counselor will be more than happy to help you. So, if you are getting stressed about college apps, or even if you are not, it will be worth it to give it a try to the College Application Workshops. Just remember that you don’t have to go through this alone.
