Wellness Wednesday: Kindness Can Boost Your Self-Esteem

Happy Wellness Wednesday!

There's this widespread belief that you cannot love other people until you love yourself. To a certain extent, this is true, in that, when you care for yourself you are in the best position possible to care for others.

Compassion is like a muscle that is strengthened with regular activity. Try to make it a habit to do at least one kind thing every day – however small it may be – so that you can reflect at the end of the day and feel assured that you made someone's day a bit better.

Read more here: https://www.healthyplace.com/blogs/buildingselfesteem/2018/5/random-acts-of-kindness-improve-self-esteem

Self-Care Tip:
Trust yourself. Trust you know what is best for you and block out outside negative influences that deter you from what you know is right for YOU.

Kindness Challenge:
Let a friend know why they're a great friend.

We all need someone to talk to, someone who listens, and someone who understands. Your Sweetwater High School Counselors are here for you. We are just an email, video chat, or phone call away.

Wellness Wednesday: Don't Let Negative Feelings Stop You

Happy Wellness Wednesday!

Think about the last time you felt fear and anxiety take control of your day. Maybe it stopped you from speaking up because you felt like your opinion wasn't worthwhile. Perhaps an email or an essay took you hours to write because your inner critic kept telling you it wasn't good enough–that you weren't good enough.

While no one is immune from self-doubt, it actually impacts high-achievers the most. This battle with the inner critic is one many successful people share – yet one we don't often talk about it.

Read more here:
https://www.forbes.com/sites/melodywilding/2017/04/05/3-ways-highly-successful-people-handle-self-doubt/?sh=6031de18789f

Self-Care Tip:

Take a Personal Inventory. Make three lists. Write down 10 of your strengths, 10 of your achievements, and 10 things you admire about yourself. Post it somewhere you can see everyday.

 Kindness Challenge:

Make Peace Rocks. Paint rocks with encouraging words and place them around town to delight your neighbors

Wellness Wednesday: Stand Tall

Happy Wellness Wednesday!

Every day we make dozens of little choices that either benefit us by asserting our ideas or diminish us because we hesitate in making our views or desires known.

Sometimes it seems easier to go with the flow to avoid potential conflict. But the truth is that letting people walk all over you can increase feelings of stress and anxiety, and it might eventually lessen your feelings of self-worth and play to your insecurities.

Learning to stand up for yourself will help you take charge of your life, believe in your own power and embolden you to reach for your dreams. The stronger you feel, the stronger you will become.

Learn to stand up for yourself in any situation with these 10 simple yet powerful step:
https://www.success.com/10-powerful-ways-to-stand-up-for-yourself-in-any-situation/

Self-Care Tip:
Super Hero Pose - Stand up straight. Put your hands on your hips. Puff your chest, just like your favorite super hero. Doing so shows you believe in yourself and shows others you are self-confident.

Kindness Challenge:
Leave a note on the restroom mirror that says "you look amazing" for others to see!

Wellness Wednesday: International Self-Esteem Month

Happy Wellness Wednesday!

February is International Self-Esteem Month.

Self-esteem refers to a person's beliefs about their own worth and value.

It also has to do with the feelings people experience that follow from their sense of worthiness or unworthiness.

Self-esteem is important because it heavily influences people's choices and decisions.

In other words, self-esteem serves a motivational function by making it more likely that people will take care of themselves and explore their full potential.

Here are some ways you can improve your self-esteem:

Self-Care Tip:
Write positive messages on Post-It Notes and place them on mirrors in your house.

Kindness Challenge:
Compliment the first three people you see today.
