Wellness Wednesday: Time for Playcation!

Happy Wellness Wednesday from Santa, Mrs. Claus, and the reindeer!

We hope you find rest and relaxation during the winter break. Few people talk about having a playcation, but it's a great idea: stay home, but make it fun! The difference between a staycation and a playcation is that staycations tend to focus more on resting and relaxing, while playcations are for—you guessed it—fun!

With the hard work and stressful routines that characterize many people's lifestyles, it's important to have some fun (like Billy Crystal did to 'get his smile back' in the classic movie City Slickers) as a way to recharge your batteries and be sure you're enjoying life. You can devote several days to taking a playcation, or just be sure you pepper in some fun on a regular basis.

Self Care Tip:
As we prepare for 2020, it’s time to set some goals. Makes goals achievable, while also allowing for normal “emergencies” at work that might take up your time.
Kindness Challenge:
Find a local cause to volunteer your time this holiday season. You can find great ideas here.

Wellness Wednesday: Hustle and Help #WellnessWednesday #BeWellRedDevils

Happy Wellness Wednesday!

We’re in the home stretch of the semester. It’s time to hustle and get things done. The end of the year/semester can get overwhelming. Remember, it’s OK to ask for help if you need it. We all need a helping hand at times.

Self-Care Tip: Clean up your area (bedroom, office, desk). Many people find a clean and neat work area to be cathartic.

Kindness Challenge:
Because our campus needs some extra TLC, pick up 5 pieces of trash on your way to class after NB and lunch.

Affective Statement:
I am so pleased to see/hear…

We invite you to encourage students to visit our Wellness Room in the counseling center room in office 141 if they need to de-stress and decompress. Please have students check in with a counselor before using the Wellness Room. Typically, we have students use the Wellness Room for no longer than 15 minutes at a time to report back to class ASAP.

Because YELLOW stands for happiness, positivity, energy, optimism, and joy, we are asking for our campus community to wear YELLOW on Wednesdays to help promote our Wellness Wednesday efforts.

To spread the good news of our wellness efforts, please use the hashtag #BeWellRedDevils in sharing your Wellness Wednesday activities.

Wellness Wednesday: TLC for You and Me

Happy Wellness Wednesday!

The holiday season is upon us and that comes along with joyful and happy times. Yet, this time of year may be sad and lonely for others.

The holidays can be the most painful time of year when someone has experienced the loss of a loved one.

Let’s be mindful of our students, colleagues, family, and friends who may need a little more TLC during this season.

If you're wondering how to help your loved ones through the holidays, here are some strategies that can help.

Self-Care Tip:
Use 15 minutes to write out your thoughts about anything bothering you. Then burn or throw away the paper.

Kindness Challenge:
High five a stranger, or two, today.

Affective Statement:
I am so thankful that/for…
