Welcome Back Red Devils

Hello Red Devils! 

 

On behalf of your SUHi counseling department we would like to welcome you back to the 2020-21 school year.  Our hope is that you and your families are doing well as San Diego County continues to implement safety guidelines due to COVID 19. We also hope that you’ve had a chance to rest and recharge over the summer break in order to take on another school year that will begin via distance learning. 

 

In addition, we would like to thank all students and families for their continued patience and flexibility as our counseling department has gone through some changes over the summer. We have gained 2 new counselors and we are expecting the arrival of 1 more counselor in order to complete our counseling team. Because of these changes the response time to emails and voice messages may be slower than usual.  Please know that your concerns are not being ignored. 

 

We know the beginning of any school year can be a bit stressful, so we have included some valuable information below that may answer some of your questions in regard to student schedule procedures and our new counselor alpha list.  We wish you the best in this new school year.

Student Schedule Procedures:

 

• Your class schedule will become available on Friday morning July 31st through your Infinite Campus portal.

• The link provided below is for students to request a class change if needed.  The link will be active from Monday Aug. 3rd (8am) to Wednesday Aug. 5th (3pm). IMPORTANT: We will not grant requests for teacher changes or period changes.

• Counselors will do their best to accommodate student requests based on class availability.  We will email students with the outcome of your request. Please be sure that you are checking your school email daily.

The following is the format for students to login to Infinite Campus.

Password = first letter of first name, first letter of last name, then birthday in this format mmddyy

Senior Updates from SUHi Counseling

Hi Red Devils! It's your SUHi Counselors dropping by to say hello!

Our hope is that you and your family are well and in good spirits.  As the end of the school year nears, we would like to encourage students to continue to do well in all your classes.  

We understand distance learning can have some challenges, so it’s important that you maintain contact with all your teachers, they are always available to support you, and counselors continue to be available to all students/parents who have any questions or concerns. 

You may have already heard that our district recently adjusted graduation requirements for the class of 2020. This adjustment is not meant to affect the graduation status of any senior.  If we discover any issue connected to this change, your counselor will personally reach out to you. 

  

In addition, we would also like to encourage all seniors to take a minute to answer a few questions on our SUHi Counseling Senior Exit Questionnaire which is linked below.  

By filling out this questionnaire you will have a chance to sign-up for our Virtual Signing Day activities. We plan to recognize the awesome accomplishments and commitments you all have worked toward in the last few years.

The deadline to fill out the SUHi Counseling Senior Exit Questionnaire will be MAY 11th.

We hope you and your family are safe, healthy, and in high spirits!  Your SUHi counselors want to assure you that we are here to support you during this unprecedented time. We have been working with our leaders to prepare information, resources, and creative ways to stay connected.

What's Going On at SUHi Counseling?

The school year is now up and running! Here are some of the highlights of the lessons and programs the counselors are going this semester. 

AUGUST/SEPTEMBER:

• Senior Credit Checks: All Seniors will meet with their counselor to review post-secondary plans, financial aid information and discuss academic progress towards graduation, if applicable, discuss credit recovery options.
• College Application Workshops: Starting October 29th thru November 30th, Monday thru Wednesday, After-School College Application Workshops 2:45 to 4PM in the Counseling Center.

OCTOBER/NOVEMBER:

• Freshman 6-year Plans: All 9th Graders will participate in a group presentation to review graduation, A-G requirements, post-secondary options and extra-curricular opportunities. They will complete a 6-Year plan where 9th graders can see how they can complete their graduation and A-G College admission requirement throughout the 4 years of High School.
• Sophomore Career Exploration: 10th Graders will participate in Career Exploration lessons designed to provide students with an opportunity to explore career assessments, review their individual results and research careers in their field of interest. 

SPECIALITY PROGRAMS:

• Suhi U Prep for Seniors: Sweetwater High University Prep program is an after school program designed to support student’s through their entire college application process. Program starts, August 9th.
• SAT Prep for Seniors: Designed to provide seniors with SAT prep skills and testing strategies. Starts August 13th thru August 24th after school in the Counseling Center.
• College & Career Awareness Day: The last day of the month, an information table is available at lunch with various resources for students on college and career information.
• Wellness Wednesday: Every Wednesday, students are welcomed to come in the Counseling Center Conference Room, for a safe space to talk and reflect on various topics. 
• Support Groups: Support groups will start in October. These groups are designed to support our students in their personal/social needs. Topics are to be determined upon participant area of need.
• Parent Workshop Series: Parent workshops will begin October 17th, with opportunities for parents to attend 7 workshops through the school year that address academic, post-secondary and personal social topics to assist in working with their teen.

She heralded School Counselors as "heroes" who help guide students nationwide to prosperous futures. Her message, found here, gives credit to educators, especially school counselors, in preparing our students for their future.

The theme for National School Counseling Week 2017 is “Helping Students Realize Their Potential.”
