UC Irvine Department of Urology’sSummer Surgery Program

UC Irvine’s Summer Surgery Program is an exceptional opportunity for high school students to gain hands-on experience in the fields of surgery and medicine.




We aim to ignite a passion in our future leaders by providing an unmatched experience in surgical care delivery here at UC Irvine’s world-class institution.
Participants or “Summer Surgeons” in our program will:
have first-hand exposure to our da Vinci robot and other state-of-the-art minimally invasive surgical devices.
observe live surgical cases with UC Irvine’s top surgeons.
become proficient in CPR and obtain Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification.
learn anatomy through dissection courses and hands-on ultrasound training.
hone their surgical skills through small-group workshops and much, much, more!




Applications will be accepted beginning March 1, 2015. We have limited spots available for the following dates, so begin completing you applications NOW!


Session 1: July 6th-July 17th
Session 2: July 20th-July 31st
Room and Board will be offered for out-of-state and international applicants for Session 2 only.

The Department of Urology at UC Irvine offers two 2-week sessions for mature high school students at least 16 years of age who have excelled academically. Each session will accommodate 24 students.

Additionally, we are accepting applications for undergraduate and/or pre-medical students to serve as “College Coach Chaperones” to serve as group leaders, assisting in all daily activities. College Coach Chaperones will experience all of the benefits of the program in addition to chaperoning our out-of-town and international students at the UC Irvine Campus Dorms during Session 2.
