Community Service Opportunity with the Filipino Migrant Center

We have an amazing community service opportunity this summer that students may be interested in joining! Our high school summer program (open to all grades) is 5 weeks long that meets twice a week  and students will learn the fundamentals of filmmaking and storytelling through various workshops and activities (around 3 hours each session).

They will be working closely with volunteer professionals in filmmaking, journalism, and education to create a short film (3-5 minutes) documenting stories of their community or sharing intergenerational stories of their family's migration. At the end, there will be a showcase where we will invite the community and share the work the students have created. Students do not have to be Filipino to join our program and are open to learning about Filipino migration history in San Diego.

A little bit about the Filipino Migrant Center, we are a non-profit organization that serves working class Filipinos all across Southern California. We offer free services to the Filipino community such as legal assistance for labor and immigration issues, legal & health clinics, Know Your Rights trainings, and many others. Through our programs and services, we help empower youth to give back to their communities and create positive social change.

I have attached the digital flyer for our program to the email. We have been presenting at various high schools and we would love to visit Sweetwater High School to present to the students about our program. Please share the flyer with any teachers who would be open to have us present in their classes about our program!

If you have any questions, feel free to contact me via email annarapadaa@gmail.com And I look forward to hearing from you! Thank you and have a great day!
