NACAC Scholarship Contest for San Diego-Area Juniors and Seniors

NACAC Scholarship Contest for San Diego-Area Juniors and Seniors
Deadline is June 8

The National Association for College Admission Counseling (NACAC) is holding a scholarship contest for 11th and 12th graders who attend San Diego-area schools. The annual contest is held in conjunction with NACAC‘s national conference, which this year will be held Oct. 1-3 at the San Diego Convention Center.

San Diego-area 11th and 12th graders from all family income backgrounds and academic preparation are encouraged to apply. To enter, they must create a video of no more than two minutes and/or 2 GB using the following script:

"My name is ___________ and I'm a ______________ (junior or senior) from _____________ (high school and town). My college degree will help me make a difference in my family, community and beyond by _________."

Here are the contest guidelines and application directions.

Videos will be judged based on originality, creativity and focus but students do not need to be experienced videographers to submit an entry—their message and creativity are most important! No fancy camera equipment required. They can simply use their camera phones!

In addition to showing the winning videos during the national conference, NACAC will post them on its website. Videos must be received on or before June 8, 2015. All videos received become property of NACAC.

NACAC, an education association of more than 14,000 secondary school counselors, college and university admission officials, community-based organizations and others who support students in the transition from high school to college, will award scholarships totaling $20,000—$2,500 for first place, $1,500 for second place and 16 honorable mention awards of $1,000.

(Scholarships will be awarded upon the recipients‘ successful completion of their senior year and admission to an accredited two- or four-year institution. Scholarships are nonrenewable and should be used for education expenses.)

Winning students and their counselors will be notified in early August via email. Winners, their families and their counselors also will be recognized at the national conference during our Annual Membership Meeting on Saturday, October 3 in Hall G of the convention center. (NACAC will reimburse students, parents and counselors for local travel expenses to attend the awards presentation at the convention center.)

Good luck to you!
