THE POSITION: The Chula Vista Fire Explorers were developed in 1989, and are sponsored by the Boy Scouts of America. The goal is to introduce young men and women to the activities related to the fire service. This training develops character, responsibility and team work in the participant.
STANDARDS: AGE: Minimum 16 years of age at time of hire date. Maximum: 21 years of age.
CERTIFICATIONS: After obtaining a first aid card, a cardiopulmonary resuscitation card, and successful completion of their six-month exam; Fire Explorers may participate in a ride-along program.
QUALIFICATION GUIDELINES: Fire Explorers must have the ability to follow orders and directions; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with supervisors, co-workers and the public; ability to learn firefighting techniques, policies, practices and operations; knowledge of safe working practices and procedures; physical condition appropriate to perform the duties of this job classification.
