Is it possible to make a wellness room larger?

We are researching grants to provide a bigger space for students to relax. However, the wellness room is intentionally a small space to provide a safe space for a student dealing with social/emotional difficult times and in need of a space to reground their emotions and continue with the day.

Is there tutoring/academic support for HN/AP classes?

We do have tutoring available for college prep. courses, but for honors/AP most students can go to tutoring with their teacher. We encourage the students to reach out to the teacher first. It is also highly recommended that your student consider joining one of our outreach programs like AVID, that offer additional tutoring support services. We also encourage students to create study groups and use websites like Khan Academy. It’s preferable that the student does not fail the course but they are at risk of not graduating if it’s a required course. If the student has applied to a four year university their college acceptance may be rescinded.

What are counselor hours? How to make an appointment

We have staggering hours, from 7:45am thru 4:15pm. You can call and/or email to schedule an appointment with your student’s counselor.

What are Math and World Language Graduation requirements?

World language is 2 years (level 3-4) minimum graduation requirement. However, there are other ways a student can validate mastery for example, via AP world language test. Please speak with your student counselor for further information.

Math graduation requirement is 3 years, however, at SUHi we require our students to continue in math through senior year to ensure skills necessary for post-secondary plans. Please feel welcome to refer to suhicounseling website tab-> Graduation Requirements. Here you can access all SUHSD graduation requirements, with most recent updates.

What are math options students can take?

This depends on your student placement, however, for a list of available courses please refer to suhicounseling website tab-> Course Listing. You can call/email your student counselor for individual guidance on your student’s math placement and recommendations.

Once community service hours are completed who/what do they submit them?

It is recommended your student get preapproval from the social science/history teacher to ensure community service is approved. Once completed they will submit a form to their social science/history teacher.

Students can visit http://suhicounseling.com/ ‘Community Service’ where they can find local options of approved non-profit organizations and community service verification forms. Please have the students complete the community service form before the service is completed (eg. social science teacher signature needed).Google classroom also has community service opportunity announcements. The school site does not often have those opportunities for community service but it depends on the activity.

What are the consequences for student vaping at school?

Staff is required to report a student that is caught vaping. Staff is expected to refer to the administrator who will assess the situation and assign appropriate consequences. The research shows that the addiction level is extremely high. As a school we work with our youth to help connect families to community resources and support for group classes on the dangers of vaping.
