Wellness Wednesday: Practice Gratitude
This week is National Suicide Prevention Week 2021 in the month of September which is National Suicide Prevention Month.
You are not alone in helping someone in crisis. There are many resources available to assess, treat and intervene. Crisis lines, counselors, intervention programs and more are available to you, as well as to the person experiencing the emotional crisis. To read more, visit: https://www.suicideispreventable.org/ or https://www.elsuicidioesprevenible.org/
Practicing gratitude — such as with a diary — can increase positive emotions and lower the risk of depressive symptoms that can lead to suicide. While some argue it "can't fix everything," gratitude is a low-cost, high-impact way to maintain your mental health.

We all need someone to talk to, someone who listens, and someone who understands. Your Sweetwater High School Counselors are here for you.

Empowerment and Development for Girls in Engineering
Society of Women Engineers and Women in Computing at UC San Diego is promoting their outreach program. EDGE, Empowerment and Development for Girls in Engineering, which is a year long program catered to 9-12 graders interested in pursuing an engineering degree.
Our mission is to encourage more high school girls to consider STEM related careers in order to bridge the gender gap in engineering fields. This program will provide opportunities to network with women in engineering and computer science fields at UCSD, as well as provide various workshops and events to foster interest in a wide variety of STEM fields.
This is the second year of this program, and we would really appreciate help recruiting passionate and driven students. Attached is the flyer for our program, and we would love for you to send it to anyone who may be interested.
Applications for the 2021-2022 school year are now open, and students may apply through this form. The application deadline is September 23, 2021 at 11:59 pm.
If you have any questions about the EDGE program, please reach out to us at edge.ucsd@gmail.com or visit https://edgeucsd.wixsite.com/edge.
National Suicide Prevention Week 2021
This week is National Suicide Prevention Week 2021
The theme for this week is: “Supportive Transitions: Reconnect, Reenter, and Rebuild”.
Transitions can be conceptualized as an event or series of events that cause fundamental changes in the fabric of daily life – what people do, where they do it, and with whom.
Expected or unexpected, welcomed or unwelcome – transitions can be unsettling and stressful, impacting our mental health and increasing risk factors for suicide.
Major life changes, such as the death of a loved one, divorce, job loss and relocation, can be environmental risk factors for suicide. Protective factors such as positive coping skills, resilience, and connectedness to others can help navigate transitions and reduce some of their impact on mental health and suicide risk.
As we reenter and rebuild the fabrics of our daily life that were so fundamentally disrupted, reconnecting with supportive relationships and practicing positive coping skills is essential for our emotional well-being.

Wellness Wednesday: Achieving Greatness
Happy Wellness Wednesday Red Devils!
Today I want to remind you that YOU are capable of achieving greatness.
You have the power to create your reality. Through your intentions you can achieve your goals, go to places you thought you’d never go, and live a life that you felt was unachievable. The possibilities are endless. Yet, intentions alone are not enough. They must be coupled with thoughtful planning and actions.Virtual Wellness Room
