Wellness Wednesday: Motivation

Happy Wellness Wednesday Red Devils!

Today's message is all about motivation. What is motivation? Motivation is the desire to act in service of a goal. It's the crucial element in setting and attaining our objectives.

Sometimes it is challenging to get motivated. Here are some questions you can ask yourself to figure out what works for you.

1) What are my reasons for wanting to achieve this goal?
2) What steps do I need to take to move closer to my goal?
3) What stops or reduces my motivation?
4) How can I overcome these obstacles?
5) What habits can I create to increase my motivation?

For this school year, we decided to include a positive affirmation in our weekly Wellness Wednesday messages. We are our own first cheerleader, our own "hype person". We have to believe in ourselves first. Take care of ourselves first. Praise ourselves first. Doing so allows us to radiate that positivity to others.

Self-care is crucial for our physical, emotional and mental well-being. In order for our students, parents, and staff to be the best they can be for each other, they have to take care of themselves first.

Self-Care Tip: Write down your top three goals this month. Write them down somewhere you can see each day.

Kindness is very important in creating a sense of community and belonging. One act of small kindness can release an enormous chain of positive events. It is important for students, parents, and staff to feel we are a part of the same community, working towards the same goal of mental wellness.

Kindness Challenge: Make a plan to connect with a friend and do something fun.

We all need someone to talk to, someone who listens, and someone who understands. Your Sweetwater High School Counselors are here for you. We are just an email, video chat, or phone call away.

Please visit our Virtual Wellness Room to take a break from your online classes. Do some breathing exercises, stretch, or play a game. It's OK to take a time out in the middle of the day for a "brain break".
