Possible Power Outages

Dear Sweetwater Union High School District Families,

Because of expected wind gusts, San Diego Gas & Electric (SDG&E) is watching some areas of the county, including our community, for possible public safety power shutoffs Thursday, Dec. 5 and Friday, Dec. 6.

No plans have been announced for any outages, but we want to make sure parents are informed about the possibility. The preventative power outages are a way to protect life, property, and critical infrastructure against wildfires during extreme and potentially dangerous weather conditions.

In these events, SDG&E may turn off the power and keep it off until the utility feels it's safe to restore power. Should power be shutoff in our community during distance learning, we will be flexible in student’s lessons and alternative methods of measuring student attendance and participation will be implemented during this time.

Please note since teachers may also be affected by the power outages, office hours and synchronous instruction may be limited. You can get more information about public safety power outages through SDG&E’s public safety power shutoff mobile app.

For location details and updated information on outages and when power may be turned back on, visit SDGE.com/Outages. We know being without electricity is difficult, especially during distance learning, and we appreciate your patience during these times of elevated fire risk.
